Powerful women over 50 are having a moment

Hello Reader,

It’s Amy here,

I’ve been reading about the excitement around The Devil Wears Prada II lately, with Meryl Streep returning as the unforgettable Miranda Priestly — and it seems to be striking quite a chord with many people.

Partly because it’s fun and nostalgic, of course. But also because we’re seeing more visible, confident older women on screen and in the workplace at a time when women over 50 are one of the fastest-growing groups in the workforce.

One workplace expert described older women as a “strategic asset” — valued for experience, resilience and the ability to navigate change and uncertainty.

I thought that was refreshing to read.

There’s something encouraging about seeing ageing portrayed as capable, stylish, intelligent and relevant — rather than invisible.

And honestly, Miranda Priestly still knows how to command a room.

We’ve also just published Kaye’s review of the film — she went along with friends for a proper cinema night out and a long post-movie debrief over dinner, which certainly feels like the right way to do it. Her review is thoughtful, and thankfully doesn’t give too much away — so whether you’ve already seen it or are still planning your own girls’ night out, it’s well worth a read.

Have you been to see it yet?

Enjoy your week,
Amy

P.S. Nadine attended opening night for WAITRESS The Musical this week, and she couldn't recommend it more. Read her magnificent review here. The show is on at Her Majesty's Theatre until 12 July.

Hello Reader, It's Kaye here. Picture an Australian weatherboard house, frozen in time, sitting inside Chadstone's polished retail space — that's Rone's HOME installation. The Melbourne-based street artist, known for his immersive works in abandoned spaces, has created a nostalgic walk through a home and backyard the occupants seemingly left decades ago and never returned to. Every room is layered with faded furnishings, forgotten household items and dusty surfaces — quiet traces of a life...

Hello Reader, It’s Angie here, With all the recent changes to public transport fares, I thought I’d share a simple reminder that’s easy to overlook — free weekend travel for Seniors Myki holders is still available anywhere in Victoria. I decided to give it a proper test. Instead of driving, I hopped on a spotless McHarry’s bus into Geelong, caught the train into Melbourne, and made a day of it. First stop was the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, where I spent a happy hour wandering through...

ROME exhibition

Hello Reader, I recently asked some of our Seniors in Melbourne contributors to tell us about their Melbourne "happy place" — somewhere they return to for a sense of calm, connection, nostalgia, or simply because it makes them smile. The responses were wonderful. Some chose well-known landmarks, others picked quiet corners of the city. What I love is that the article isn't really about the places themselves. It's about the memories, routines and moments that have made those places special...
