Chadstone Surprises – and a Clever Way to Find New Recipes

Hi there Reader,

It's Diane here. I hadn’t been to Chadstone in years — and wow, has it changed! It just keeps growing. You could easily spend a full week exploring it properly, especially with all the new food options.

On my visit, I stumbled across a clever AI-powered recipe tool in their latest food precinct. With a little help from a very friendly concierge, I gave it a go. I’m coeliac, so I added that into the notes, chose Italian and salmon, and within seconds it had suggested five unique gluten-free recipes just for me!

There was a small hiccup with the QR code (my phone isn’t set up to download PDFs), but they happily emailed the recipes to me on the spot. I was told they’re planning to install a printer soon too — which I think will be very handy.

If you’re heading to Chadstone soon, pop into the new food precinct and give it a go — it’s called The Market Pavillion. Read more about it here too.

All the best,
Diane

Afternoon tea & a Show

Discover an event program designed especially for those who remember — or simply love — the music of the 1940s to 1960s.

We attended Sincerely Yours, a Vera Lynn tribute concert with Victoria Mäntynen and her pianist. Victoria performs a fantastic tribute to Vera Lynn’s most memorable and popular songs from WW2 and beyond. She has a wonderful voice and sang every song beautifully and gracefully — a complete professional!
We were absolutely entranced. It felt like being taken back in time to a real Vera Lynn concert. Victoria spoke to the audience just as Vera once did to the soldiers — it was incredibly moving.

Hello Reader, With Mental Health Awareness Week (12–18 May) upon us, I’ve been reflecting on how important it is to care for our mental wellbeing—especially during life changes like retirement. It turns out that staying mentally healthy doesn’t have to mean anything complicated. Things like keeping a routine, staying socially connected, and making time for regular movement can all make a big difference. I’ve found that retired or semi-retired doesn’t mean slowing down—it often means having a...

Created by the talented Victoria Mantynen, Sincerely Yours is more than just a performance program. It’s a celebration of community, connection, and musical theatre. After the music, you’re...

Hello Reader, There’s something special about autumn in Melbourne, isn’t there? The air gets that little bit crisper, the parks put on a show, and suddenly a cup of tea outdoors feels like a real treat. Lately, I’ve been thinking about the small things I still want to squeeze in before winter arrives — maybe a slow garden stroll, a midweek matinee, or finally trying that café with the courtyard seating everyone keeps talking about. Our contributor, Kaye, recently captured this autumn magic so...
