Hello Reader, It’s Angie here, Like many of you, I’ve been wincing a bit every time I pull up at the petrol pump lately. So I started looking into a few ways to save a little — and I discovered a couple of handy options. One I hadn’t tried before is the 4c per litre seniors discount at United Petroleum participating stations. If you search for the United seniors discount online, you can request a code that links to their app. Once it’s set up, a daily barcode appears in the United app that you simply show when you pay. Another one worth checking is the fuel lock feature in the 7‑Eleven Fuel App, which lets you lock in a price when it dips — sometimes saving quite a bit if prices rise again later. And if you bank with National Australia Bank, there are currently offers giving 10c per litre off at 7‑Eleven. If you’re a toll road user, it’s also worth opening the rewards tab in the Linkt app — I noticed an offer for 6c per litre off petrol running for a limited time. Of course, sometimes the best saving is not using the car at all. How wonderful to have free public transport every day throughout April. If you’ve discovered any clever ways to save on petrol (or avoid buying it altogether!), I’d love to hear them. Warmly,

Hello Reader, It’s Kaye here (yes, another Kaye in the community!), We know how easy it is to navigate the streets of Melbourne CBD, but have you ever thought about how this plan all began? I recently visited the Hoddle Grid – The Great Land Grab exhibition at the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and found it fascinating. The exhibition explores Melbourne’s very first land sale in 1837, but what I particularly enjoyed was learning about the colourful mix of people who bought the land —...
Hello Reader, I came across something interesting recently that felt worth sharing. Governments around Australia are encouraging people to check whether they have any unclaimed money sitting in state revenue offices — and apparently there are millions of dollars waiting to be claimed. In Victoria, this can include things like forgotten bank accounts, unclaimed refunds, old rent or bond money, dividends, sale proceeds, and even uncashed cheques. It only takes a few minutes to search the...
Hello Reader, It’s Amy here, I’ve been reading about the excitement around The Devil Wears Prada II lately, with Meryl Streep returning as the unforgettable Miranda Priestly — and it seems to be striking quite a chord with many people. Partly because it’s fun and nostalgic, of course. But also because we’re seeing more visible, confident older women on screen and in the workplace at a time when women over 50 are one of the fastest-growing groups in the workforce. One workplace expert...
