Explore Melbourne by train — new tours now open

Hello Reader,

I’m really pleased to share a new partnership with Transport Victoria — all about encouraging more of us to get out and explore using public transport.

The timing couldn’t be better. With free public transport across Victoria throughout April and May, many people are rediscovering just how easy it is to move around without the cost of fuel or parking.

But here’s the part I think is worth holding onto long after May ends:
Seniors myki holders travel free every weekend, year-round, anywhere in Victoria.

And that’s exactly what inspired our new Seniors Explore Club tours.

We’ve just opened bookings for our first series — a one-hour guided walk through the changing heart of Melbourne, exploring the incredible transformation taking place around the Metro Tunnel.

You’ll meet under the clocks at Flinders Street Station and, with expert guide Paul Daffey, hear railway history, local stories, and step off the usual path to go inside two of the new Metro Tunnel stations for a sticky beak.

Thanks to Transport Vic, tickets are free, and tours are kept small (maximum 15 people), so it’s an easy, relaxed way to experience something quite special in the city.

If you enjoy learning something new about Melbourne (and having a good reason to head in for the day), I think you’ll really like this one.

And if you’re keen to venture a little further, we’ll soon be opening bookings for a Bendigo tour in June — a lovely excuse to make the most of that free weekend travel and turn it into a proper day out.

I’d love to see you on one of these.

Until then, enjoy your week.

Amy

P.S. If you’re still deciding what to do for Mother’s Day, our guide (read here) is full of ideas—from outing options to thoughtful gifts. I’ve also booked a Spanish cooking class with Mum this year (through ClassBento), and it’s safe to say we’re both quite looking forward to it. I'll share more on that soon...

Hello Reader, It’s Marjie here, With ANZAC Day coming up this Saturday, I’ve found myself reflecting a little more deeply this year. My father served as a navigator in the RAAF during the war, and later in life — in his late 70s — he wrote a poem after visiting Bomana War Cemetery in Papua New Guinea. It was the only poem he ever wrote, and it’s stayed with me ever since. More recently, someone from my camera club used AI to recreate his voice and read the poem aloud. Hearing those words...

Hello Reader, I was chatting recently with Trevor, who’s just retired, when our conversation drifted — as it often does — to day trips and longer drives. He’s always been someone who enjoys getting out of the city, whether it’s a run to Ballarat, a wander through Bendigo, or a longer road trip when the mood strikes. What surprised me was how naturally he talked about doing all of this in his electric vehicle. Trevor bought his EV a couple of years ago and says he’s never looked back. For...

Hello Reader, It’s Angie here, Like many of you, I’ve been wincing a bit every time I pull up at the petrol pump lately. So I started looking into a few ways to save a little — and I discovered a couple of handy options. One I hadn’t tried before is the 4c per litre seniors discount at United Petroleum participating stations. If you search for the United seniors discount online, you can request a code that links to their app. Once it’s set up, a daily barcode appears in the United app that...
