It's Angie here. Other than the inaugural NFL match in town, there was plenty on offer on a warm spring Friday in Melbourne.

After a street-side coffee at Journal in Flinders Lane, I was keen to see Andrew Chapman's photographs, The Green Bus, recently opened at the Town Hall's City Gallery. Documenting Melbourne for 55 years, his photographs capture the spirit, culture and identity of our city. Factor in half an hour next time you're in town — free entry, weekdays only.

From there it was a quick walk to Flinders Street Station, where the flower man arranges the prettiest bunches. Little hessian bags of colourful blooms make the perfect last-minute gift, and at $15, they're wallet-friendly too.

A friend had suggested Yoku Ono in Prahran for lunch — would it be a steaming bowl of ramen, or snacks to share? We went with the latter: gyoza, sashimi tuna, tempura vegetables and agedashi tofu. The fitout and menu transport you straight to Japan. Afterwards, Chapel Street demanded some op-shopping, and finally, coffee and a sweet treat in the sunshine at Le Petit Marché by Entrecôte on Greville Street.

If you're feeling inspired: Prahran Station (Sandringham line) is right on Greville Street, and Yoku Ono is a five-minute walk away. The Green Bus runs until 19 February 2027, weekdays 8.30am–5pm.
