The street where 150 people are welcomed every day

Hello Reader,

This quarter, I'm delighted to introduce our newest Community Giveback partner: St Mary's House of Welcome in Fitzroy.

For me, this one starts with my mum. She has never walked past someone in need without stopping, whether it's buying a copy of The Big Issue or pausing for a chat with a woman sitting on the street. Her curiosity about people's lives, and her quiet longing to help, is what inspired me to choose a cause like this one.

Homelessness can feel overwhelming in its scale, but Melbourne is full of people working every day to make a difference. St Mary's is one of them. On Brunswick Street (a street many of us know well for very different reasons), they open their doors six days a week and support around 150 people every single day, with meals, showers, clothing and a safe place to spend time. It's practical, steady, unglamorous work, and it matters enormously.

I've made a donation, and if you're in a position to give, there's a simple way to do so. There are also other ways to help, from taking part in their online Minds for Meals quiz (a friendly bit of competition over a cuppa) to picking up a few supermarket essentials or volunteering. You'll find it all on our Community Giveback page, so please read our page for the full story. And if you know someone who'd like to hear about it, sharing the page is every bit as valuable as a donation.

Warmly,
Amy

P.S. You may have seen the news that Facebook's testing limits on how many links pages can share for free each month. If it goes further, it'll get harder for us to point you to our stories from Facebook — so I'm very glad we're here in your inbox instead. If you know someone who follows us on Facebook but isn't signed up for this newsletter yet, feel free to forward this on so they don't miss out too. They can subscribe here. 💛

Let's Explore Melbourne and Beyond

Step Into Australia’s Sporting Story

Explore more than 95 sports, treasured memorabilia and the MCC Museum inside the MCG, with interactive exhibits and plenty to keep the whole family interested.

“
This world-famous sporting arena looms large as we make the short walk to the ground from Jolimont Station. Once inside we peek beyond the barriers into the ground itself which gave us goosebumps. Carn’ the Cats!

Since it was the boys’ first visit we decided to save the 75 minute MCG tour for next holidays & explore the Museum itself housing memorabilia of Australia’s long and vast sporting history & heroes.

Her Melbourne

Hello Reader, It's Angie here. Other than the inaugural NFL match in town, there was plenty on offer on a warm spring Friday in Melbourne. Documenting Melbourne for 55 years, his photographs capture the spirit, culture and identity of our city. Factor in half an hour next time you're in town — free entry, weekdays only. From...
