Our First Email Went to 25 People… Now Look at Us!

Hello Reader,

One year ago today, I sent out my very first newsletter for Seniors in Melbourne. Back then, there were just 25 subscribers (mostly friends and family!). Now, there are thousands of you who open these emails each week, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

What started as a way to encourage my parents, Chris and Terrie, to rediscover Melbourne has grown into something even more special. Not only has this community expanded, but so has my team of contributors—all retired (or semi-retired) who are just as passionate about exploring and sharing their experiences.

One of my favourite things about writing these emails is hearing from you. I love reading your replies—whether it’s a story from your own adventures or a little tidbit that adds to what we’ve shared. So, keep them coming!

And if you’ve been enjoying these emails, why not share them with a friend? The more, the merrier!

Until next week,

Amy

P.S. Comedian Daryl Peebles is bringing his show Stand Up for Seniors… but not necessarily on the bus to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (26 March – 6 April). While he’s in town, he’s also offering free presentations on The Value of Humour in Ageing to interested groups. If your Probus Club, U3A, Men’s Shed, or community group would like to host him, let me know, and I’ll pass on the details!

An Artist's Date at Heide

This is so much more than a museum or gallery. It’s a rural escape, a garden, and a repository of a great deal of Victoria’s history

It was a treat to sit at a table and chairs, amongst the shade of trees, looking out over the lake and just relax. The service was good, lots of people being looked after by lots of staff. The food was excellent. Between three of us we chose a Cheeseburger, Chicken and Avocado Salad, and Blueberry and Ricotta Hotcake.
Everything was delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant at this magnificent location.

Captivating Guided Tour

Stand beneath the majestic dome, climb to the top for views only recently restored, and soak in the grandeur of Melbourne’s rich history

Our tour guide was very clear and concise with her detailed knowledge of the Royal Exhibition Building and the Dome. It is one amazing building to walk into especially seeing it empty. We have been to shows there before, quite a while ago, and didn’t really get the feeling of how large it is. Nor take much notice of the most beautiful artwork in the building. So, it was interesting to have each artwork explained to you on the tour.
So pleased to learn that the Dome tour gives you free admission into the Melbourne Museum. We spent the other half of our day there, and it was great."

Ocean Photographer of the Year

Hello Reader, Terrie here. Have you ever done something completely “on the spur of the moment”? Well, that’s exactly what my husband and I did last week, and it turned into an unforgettable adventure. It all started with a simple walk along Ocean Grove Beach to cool off after a hot day. The weather was perfect—22°C, blue skies, a soft breeze, and the calming sound of waves crashing on the shore. Way ahead, we spotted the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse and thought, “Why not walk all the way there?”...
