Fresh Finds This Spring – Festivals, Food & More

Hello Reader,

Spring has properly arrived, and I don’t know about you, but I feel like the whole city has woken up. The flowers are out, the days are a touch longer, and suddenly everyone’s calendar is filling with outings, lunches, and catch-ups we’d been putting off in winter.

I always find this time of year has a pull in two directions: one part of me wants to get stuck into the garden—tidying up the roses, planting a few herbs, and just enjoying a quiet cuppa outdoors. The other part is itching to get out and explore, whether that’s a day trip to the country, a wander along the coast, or heading into Melbourne to catch a show or exhibition.

And of course, spring’s also the season for weekend markets, a picnic in the park, or just enjoying a gentle stroll while everything feels fresh and new.

It’s a busy time, but in the best way. However you spend your spring days—digging in the soil or discovering something new—I hope you find those little moments of magic that make this season such a joy.

Happy spring exploring,
Amy

Making Melbourne Easier

From wheelchair hire to friendly support, Travellers Aid helps you explore the city with confidence and comfort.

I recall the name “Traveller’s Aid” from when I was young. We lived in the country and when an Aunt travelled from the other side of the State to visit us, I often heard mention of Traveller’s Aid as a place at Spencer Street Station where she would have a cuppa in the time spent waiting for a connecting train.
The name of the Station has changed, it is now Southern Cross, but Traveller’s Aid is still there providing, as they have done for over 100 years, a resting place for weary travellers.

Hello Reader, A while back, I thought I’d done something clever by picking up a lime tree on Facebook Marketplace. I love using limes in summer drinks and cooking, so I was pretty pleased with myself. The first year it produced one or two very ordinary limes, but I figured it just needed a better home, so I found a spot in the garden and planted it out. Sure enough, the next year it was thriving, producing plenty of fruit. But when I tasted them, they were odd—round, not quite right, and...

Hello Reader, I’m thrilled to share something very special with you — our very own Melbourne City Map, free to download and print whenever you’re planning a day in the city. The idea came about in conversation with my dad, Chris, who happens to be a retired cartographer. Together, we thought it would be wonderful to create a highlight map just for our readers. At its core, the map showcases 10 free cultural attractions in Melbourne’s CBD, but it goes further — featuring tram routes, public...

Hi there Reader, When I first started Seniors in Melbourne, my retired parents were lovingly roped in as my very first contributors. Fast forward to today, and we now have a wonderful team of more than ten explorers who head out across Melbourne and Victoria, sharing their stories, recommendations, and tips for planning great days out. We caught up on Sunday over coffee and cake at Chocolate Buddha in Federation Square — perfectly timed with Celebration Day, the official opening of the...
