A trip to Balwyn Cinema — Kathy’s take

Hello Reader,

It’s Kathy here!

I popped into the Balwyn Cinema recently to see The Travellers, the new Bruce Beresford film starring the incomparable Bryan Brown — and what a treat it was. On so many levels, it’s an important piece of Australian filmmaking. I loved it so much I’m already planning to see it again… possibly more than once.

As many of you know, Tuesdays are discount days — always handy for us — though this time I did have a very chatty couple beside me! Still, Balwyn remains one of my favourite cinemas. It caters beautifully for different mobility needs, and as someone with short legs, I can confirm the cushions are a blessing. Trams stop right at the door, and I know that parking can be tricky.

And can we talk about the choc tops? Proper homemade ones, crafted by the staff! Plus, nostalgic mixed lolly bags — the real kind we grew up with.

For me, choosing the right cinema makes all the difference. This isn't sponsored or endorsed, I just thought I'd share that Balwyn Cinema is one I’ll keep coming back to.

Enjoy your week,
Kathy

Let's explore Melbourne and beyond

Sculptor, Survivor, Storyteller

Learn the story of an artist, refugee and visionary whose family home is now a museum.

We had an informative afternoon and a somewhat satisfying experience. I was especially keen to explore this museum as I had long-held questions about Raoul Wallenberg, and I was completely unaware of this museum’s existence, even though I worked just a stone’s throw away for decades.
The premises is the family home of the Melbourne artist and sculptor, Karl Duldig. The home, gardens and studio are lovingly maintained by a team of passionate volunteers who engage enthusiastically with their guests through a guided tour and a refreshing afternoon tea.

Mostly Mozart

Hi Reader, It’s Angie here, a new and inspired contributor for Seniors in Melbourne. Have you ever visited the Melbourne Recital Centre? The recent Mostly Mozart concert was my first experience there — and what a delightful introduction it was. One of the joys of reaching “Seniors status” is embracing more first-time experiences, and this one included morning tea, beautiful music, and discovering ANAM — the Australian National Academy of Music, where young musicians refine their craft. The...
