Hello Reader, I was chatting recently with Trevor, who’s just retired, when our conversation drifted — as it often does — to day trips and longer drives. He’s always been someone who enjoys getting out of the city, whether it’s a run to Ballarat, a wander through Bendigo, or a longer road trip when the mood strikes. What surprised me was how naturally he talked about doing all of this in his electric vehicle. Trevor bought his EV a couple of years ago and says he’s never looked back. For local outings and easy day trips, he simply plugs in at home every week or two and heads off. For longer drives, he plans in the same kind of breaks he always has — a coffee, a stretch, a comfort stop — with a quick top-up along the way. He spoke about how smooth and quiet it is to drive, how much he’s saving by not buying petrol, and how servicing costs have dropped right down. Nothing flashy. Just practical, everyday benefits that make getting out and about easier — and cheaper — in retirement. Our conversation started because we were talking about petrol prices. Trevor’s experience was a reminder that there are now quite a few different ways people are thinking about travel and transport as costs continue to rise. Have you been curious about EVs and how they might fit into your own travels? As always, there's plenty to discover this week. Happy exploring,

Hi Reader, If travel has been sitting on your mind lately, you’re not alone. Over the past year, I’ve heard from so many readers planning that “big trip” they’ve always talked about — whether it’s seeing Japan’s cherry blossoms, cruising through Vietnam, or finally standing on the Great Wall of China. One tour company that keeps coming up in conversations with our readers is Wendy Wu Tours. We’ve featured them before and received plenty of positive feedback from travellers who loved the...
Hello Reader, It’s Kaye here (yes, another Kaye in the community!), We know how easy it is to navigate the streets of Melbourne CBD, but have you ever thought about how this plan all began? I recently visited the Hoddle Grid – The Great Land Grab exhibition at the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and found it fascinating. The exhibition explores Melbourne’s very first land sale in 1837, but what I particularly enjoyed was learning about the colourful mix of people who bought the land —...
Hello Reader, I came across something interesting recently that felt worth sharing. Governments around Australia are encouraging people to check whether they have any unclaimed money sitting in state revenue offices — and apparently there are millions of dollars waiting to be claimed. In Victoria, this can include things like forgotten bank accounts, unclaimed refunds, old rent or bond money, dividends, sale proceeds, and even uncashed cheques. It only takes a few minutes to search the...
