Australia’s Best Pizza? Kathy Reports + Free Travel Vouchers

Hello Reader,

It’s Terrie here. As of the 1st Jan, Seniors Myki holders can now travel free every weekend on public transport right across Victoria (indefinitely!). Trains, trams, buses and V/Line are all included. It’s a lovely boost for easy days out, visiting family, or simply heading somewhere new.

A quick reminder: you still need to carry your Victorian Seniors Card and tap on and off with your Seniors Myki as usual — your Myki just won’t be charged for weekend travel (it's true, we've checked!).

And while weekends are now sorted, don’t forget about your two free travel vouchers (or four for those living in regional towns). These are still well worth claiming for midweek travel anywhere in Victoria. You do need to apply for them each year, as they’re no longer sent out automatically. We've written up some tips on this, of course, you can read them here.

Speaking of train travel, have you stopped to check out any of the new metro tunnel stations yet? We have, and they're very snazzy.

Hope you enjoy a fine week of exploring,
Terrie

P.S. The radio love keeps rolling! After last week’s 3AW chat, Amy was invited to join the wonderful David Astle on ABC Radio Melbourne this week. Even better, a lovely Seniors in Melbourne reader had rung in to recommend this very newsletter—how good is that? Proof that word of mouth really does mean everything.

Taste Melbourne’s Best Pizza

Authentic Italian flavours, award-winning wood-fired pizzas, handmade pastas, and inclusive dietary options bring joy to every table.

Lorenzo, our host and co-owner, greeted us with such enthusiasm I momentarily thought that we must have previously met. He explained that he treats his customers as he would guests to his home and this warmth is reflected in the food as well, as the menu is genuinely inclusive.

Hello Reader, Last week I found myself in a room full of the people shaping the future of tourism in Victoria. The occasion was the Victorian Tourism Industry Council’s annual Vision Summit — where operators, event organisers, government and industry leaders gather to talk about what’s ahead. One thing became very clear. Tourism isn’t just a “nice to have”. It’s a $46 billion industry in Victoria — bigger than mining and agriculture combined. I reflected on why I started Seniors in Melbourne...

Hello Reader, I’ve recently started following the journey of a Melbourne retiree named Michael Kerrisk — and I can’t stop thinking about it. At 63, Michael has set himself a remarkable challenge: travelling from Melbourne to London without getting on a single plane. No quick long-haul flight, no shortcuts. Instead, trains, buses, ships and a carefully mapped route that will take him through Southeast Asia, across China and into Central Asia — the “Stans” — before eventually reaching Europe....

Hello Reader, It's Terrie here. Last week we took an easy train ride to the Showgrounds for the Caravan and Camping Show — and what a sight! From enormous luxury motorhomes (sadly beyond our budget!) to compact little vans, there were hundreds to step inside and compare. I quickly realised how useful it is to inspect them in person. Some were easy to climb into, others not so much — wobbly steps and missing handrails are worth noting. The Showgrounds is large, so I was grateful for the...
