From Terrie: A Day That Gave Me Food for Thought

Hello Reader,

Last week, I had the chance to attend the Older Women’s Recipes for Respect event here in Melbourne — and I’m so glad I did.

To be honest, I hadn’t even heard of Elder Rights Australia before this, but what an eye-opener it was. The stories shared by the women who spoke were honest, powerful, and at times deeply emotional. I found myself nodding along, remembering moments from my own life, and feeling incredibly moved.

While the event celebrated strength and respect, it also highlighted some heartbreaking truths — the statistics around poverty, elder abuse and discrimination really stayed with me. But more than anything, I walked away feeling inspired. Inspired by the women who bravely spoke, and by the incredible people working to make things better.

And the recipe book? It’s just wonderful — each page holds not only a dish but a story. Real women, real voices, and real food that brings it all together.

I left feeling both challenged and encouraged: How can I help?

Read or download the Older Women’s Recipes for Respect Book via Elder Rights Australia and see for yourself.

Warmly,
Terrie

We had visited the Museum recently but that didn’t matter because we saw exhibits that we had not seen before. I think last time we tried to see all of the exhibits instead of concentrating on a couple like we did this time.
The Melbourne Story exhibition was really interesting. It, in parts, was like walking down memory lane. Things we saw on the old television that was set up, the story of housing in years gone by and the building of the multi-story housing. That after 50 odd years, is now going to be pulled down and all the families re-homed.
