Souvenir Souvlakis & Sunday Concerts: Kathy’s City Tips

Hi there Reader,

This week, I’m sharing something a little different—wonderful tips from one of our friendly readers, Kathy, who’s often out exploring Melbourne. I loved hearing about her recent discoveries, and I think you will too!

  • Melbourne Uni’s Lyrebird Concerts
Kathy’s become a fan of these relaxed Sunday concerts. At around $20 a ticket, they’re a great way to enjoy live music, from early instruments to little-known composers. Her next outing? A harp and viola concert featuring music she’s never heard before—her kind of adventure!
  • Lightscape at the Royal Botanic Gardens
Kathy loved the dazzling displays at Lightscape, especially with an early session (hello, easy parking and fewer crowds!). She did mention the music felt a bit too loud for the setting—but that didn’t stop her from enjoying a fork-friendly souvlaki at the food van afterwards, which brought back memories of late nights in Carlton.

Next up for Kathy? She’s heading to Open House Melbourne for more behind-the-scenes exploring.

Thanks again to Kathy for letting me share her stories. Have you found something wonderful lately? Hit reply and let me know—I’d love to share more reader tips like these.

Take care,
Amy

Glamorous New Lunch Spot

Classic Italian sweets, a lunch deal, coffee and atmosphere. Stop by for a taste of la dolce vita!

Three of us tried out the newly opened Brunetti Oro at 140 Swanston Street. Wow. Walking into the café off the cold street, it instantly felt warm and inviting – a little sophisticated and casual at the same time.
The window seat gave us a wonderful view of trams and people walking by. It almost felt like we were outside, but no – it was a cosy little oasis.

District Docklands

Hello Reader, It’s Chris here. It had been more than 50 years since I last stepped inside the Oxford Scholar. Back in my RMIT student days, it was the pub across the road where mates and I would swap stories over a cheap pot. On a recent trip into the city, curiosity got the better of me and I wandered in for old times’ sake. The place had changed, of course, but sitting there with a cider in hand brought the memories flooding back. That afternoon led me to visit a few more old haunts, and it...

Hi there Reader, One of our lovely contributors, Kathy, recently reminded me of something important. She’d just been along to a Device Security: Privacy and Etiquette session at Darebin Library and told me she never misses a chance to learn more about using her laptop, emails and mobile. Her motto made me smile: “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Kathy told me she picked up some surprising advice (who knew emojis could be so risky?) and, just as importantly, had a good laugh along the way....
