Concerts by Candlelight

From rock legends to pop favourites, these concerts throughout Victoria are pure magic.

Two violins, a viola and cello used so masterfully by the four musicians from Eclective Strings, hundreds of, (very realistic), electric candles flickering a warm, expectant ambience into all corners of the historic Civic Building and music, sometimes wafting, sometimes stirring, highlighting well-known silver-screen compositions by Hans Zimmer made this a very memorable evening.

Hi there Reader, This week, I’m sharing something a little different—wonderful tips from one of our friendly readers, Kathy, who’s often out exploring Melbourne. I loved hearing about her recent discoveries, and I think you will too! Melbourne Uni’s Lyrebird ConcertsKathy’s become a fan of these relaxed Sunday concerts. At around $20 a ticket, they’re a great way to enjoy live music, from early instruments to little-known composers. Her next outing? A harp and viola concert featuring music...

Hello Reader, It’s Diane here. I recently visited The Playground Project exhibition at the Incinerator Gallery, and what a fabulous space it turned out to be—for all ages! As a retired Early Years Educator, I found it particularly fascinating to see how playgrounds have evolved over time. The exhibition showcases incredible images and stories from around the world—back when risk-taking equipment and hard surfaces were the norm! It really made me reflect on how much has changed in the name of...
