One of our most meaningful afternoons in the city

Hi Reader,

My dad, Chris, recently said that our weekly outings have taken us to some fascinating places—but one of the most memorable was our visit to the Koorie Heritage Trust.

It really stayed with us. After wandering through some of Melbourne’s oldest colonial buildings, it was striking to then stand inside a contemporary space that connects to a culture tens of thousands of years older.

With National Reconciliation Week approaching (27 May – 3 June), it’s a timely moment to reflect on the deep histories and ongoing contributions of First Nations peoples.

Read about our experience at the Trust—or browse some ideas for meaningful ways to engage this week.

All the best,
Amy

P.S. Some exciting news—starting 1 January 2026, Seniors Card holders will enjoy free weekend travel across Victoria! It’s a great reason to explore more (and save up to $360 a year). Not sure how your Seniors Myki works? Read our simple guide here and get ready to make the most of it.

GIVEAWAY

WIN a double pass to THE GREAT LILLIAN HALL, a film starring Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Jesse Williams, Lily Rabe and Pierce Brosnan, opening nationally in cinemas on 6th June.

A Tour of Tales

Discover history, art, and stories galore on this free guided tour of the world's first lending library.

On the free History of the Library tour, which lasted about 60 minutes, we learned a lot and heard many intriguing stories about the history of the buildings.
I was most taken by the impressive reading hall, which was originally the Library. Back then it was a free place of learning for the people of Melbourne and has also encompassed the National Gallery of Victoria, the Victoria Museum and what we now know as Scienceworks. This area still has the original tables and chairs from 160+ years ago, incredible!
