This Vintage Melbourne Stay Comes with a Special Touch

Hi Reader,

Chris here! I wanted to share a little story about a place—and a person—that made a lasting impression on us.

Amy first came across Lola Melbourne, a stunning vintage-style inner-city apartment, when she noticed they were also finalists in the Victorian Tourism Awards. She reached out to connect, and Patricia, the heart and soul behind Lola, welcomed her with open arms: "I love what you’ve created (as a senior myself) – and good luck at the awards!"

From the moment we stepped inside, it was clear that Lola is more than just a beautiful place to stay—it’s a labour of love. Every detail reflects Patricia’s passion for Melbourne, its history, and the joy of hosting. When we met Patricia and her husband, Irvine, at the awards gala, we couldn’t resist adding a little piece of our own story—a vintage puzzle from our Jigsaw Club, now part of Lola’s charming collection.

Have you ever stayed somewhere that felt like home the moment you walked in? Hit reply and tell me about it—I’d love to hear.

Cheers,
Chris

P.S. Love a good brain teaser? We’ve just added a daily crossword to the website! Pop over and give it a go—no pencils required.

GIVEAWAY

Seaworks Williamstown is offering two double passes to the Ocean Photographer of the Year Exhibition from now until 13 July

Iconic Elegance

This was the place to be seen in the 1890s, and though fashions have changed, the timeless tradition of high tea continues here

The mini-bus had comfortable seating for twelve people and proved to be an outstanding, and surprisingly unrushed, way to take in the gardens’ natural beauty.
Our driver, whose name was Mark despite having the name Bisley embroidered on the back of his shirt, was riveting with his commentary. Ranging from historical to hysterical with lots of botanical knowledge thrown in, the 30-minute tour was very entertaining.

Hello Reader, With Mental Health Awareness Week (12–18 May) upon us, I’ve been reflecting on how important it is to care for our mental wellbeing—especially during life changes like retirement. It turns out that staying mentally healthy doesn’t have to mean anything complicated. Things like keeping a routine, staying socially connected, and making time for regular movement can all make a big difference. I’ve found that retired or semi-retired doesn’t mean slowing down—it often means having a...

Dame Vera Lynn

Hi there Reader, It's Diane here. I hadn’t been to Chadstone in years — and wow, has it changed! It just keeps growing. You could easily spend a full week exploring it properly, especially with all the new food options. On my visit, I stumbled across a clever AI-powered recipe tool in their latest food precinct. With a little help from a very friendly concierge, I gave it a go. I’m coeliac, so I added that into the notes, chose Italian and salmon, and within seconds it had suggested five...

Titanic VR Experience

Hi there Reader, I recently had a brilliant afternoon at Playing Second Fiddle! It’s not often a show has the whole room beaming, but this one did — and then some. One audience member summed it up perfectly when they simply shouted, “Fantastic!” alongside the applause. And honestly, they weren’t wrong. Created by the talented Victoria Mantynen, Sincerely Yours is more than just a performance program. It’s a celebration of community, connection, and musical theatre. After the music, you’re...
