Join our Melbourne City Pub Tour in October!

Hello Reader,

It’s Chris here.

It had been more than 50 years since I last stepped inside the Oxford Scholar. Back in my RMIT student days, it was the pub across the road where mates and I would swap stories over a cheap pot. On a recent trip into the city, curiosity got the better of me and I wandered in for old times’ sake.

The place had changed, of course, but sitting there with a cider in hand brought the memories flooding back. That afternoon led me to visit a few more old haunts, and it struck me—wouldn’t it be fun to do a proper tour of Melbourne’s historic pubs?

Now, together with my daughter Amy from Seniors in Melbourne and writer and tour guide Paul Daffey, that idea has become reality. We’re inviting you to join us as we explore the city’s pubs past and present, swap stories, and enjoy a drink or two in good company.

Read about our upcoming tour and how to book your spot here.

Regards,

Chris

P.S. We’re putting together a guide of recommended events for the Victorian Seniors Festival. Have you seen the program yet? I’d love to know which events catch your eye—or if you’re planning to give it a miss this year.

Highly Recommended Midweek Outing

This city precinct offers affordable dining and easy access, discounts on movies and attractions, and plenty of opportunities to shop, browse and linger.

My tip — plan to spend the whole day there. The area is spacious, inviting, not noisy or crowded, and very easy to navigate.
I was amazed at the variety of shops. Souvenirs Direct was a real highlight — such good quality items, not just souvenirs. I couldn’t resist starting my Christmas shopping early and found gorgeous gifts for both adults and grandchildren. I even picked up a T-shirt from one of the clothing stores. When you find something beautiful at a reasonable price, you just have to grab it!

Mosaic lamp workshop

Hi there Reader, One of our lovely contributors, Kathy, recently reminded me of something important. She’d just been along to a Device Security: Privacy and Etiquette session at Darebin Library and told me she never misses a chance to learn more about using her laptop, emails and mobile. Her motto made me smile: “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Kathy told me she picked up some surprising advice (who knew emojis could be so risky?) and, just as importantly, had a good laugh along the way....

Hi there Reader, Last week I had the privilege of speaking on a panel for the Be Bold Be Brave forum in Geelong, a program empowering female high school students to chase their ambitions. Clare is about to take on a challenge like no other: becoming the first person to traverse the world’s longest off-road cycling trail—the 1,072km Munda Biddi Trail in...
