Hi there Reader, One of our lovely contributors, Kathy, recently reminded me of something important. She’d just been along to a Device Security: Privacy and Etiquette session at Darebin Library and told me she never misses a chance to learn more about using her laptop, emails and mobile. Her motto made me smile: “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Kathy told me she picked up some surprising advice (who knew emojis could be so risky?) and, just as importantly, had a good laugh along the way. She reckons more of us ought to take advantage of the library programs. Many are free or very affordable, and they’re a great way to learn something new while meeting people. So thank you to Kathy for the nudge. I always appreciate hearing about those little gems in Melbourne that make life easier. Have you found something worth sharing? It might be a handy service, a favourite café, or an outing that left you smiling. I’d love to hear about it. Warm regards,

Hello Reader, It’s Chris here. It had been more than 50 years since I last stepped inside the Oxford Scholar. Back in my RMIT student days, it was the pub across the road where mates and I would swap stories over a cheap pot. On a recent trip into the city, curiosity got the better of me and I wandered in for old times’ sake. The place had changed, of course, but sitting there with a cider in hand brought the memories flooding back. That afternoon led me to visit a few more old haunts, and it...
Hi there Reader, Last week I had the privilege of speaking on a panel for the Be Bold Be Brave forum in Geelong, a program empowering female high school students to chase their ambitions. One of my fellow panellists was Clare Reilly—an inspiring disability and MS advocate whose determination left a lasting impression on me. Clare is about to take on a challenge like no other: becoming the first person to traverse the world’s longest off-road cycling trail—the 1,072km Munda Biddi Trail in...
