Free Travel & Thousands of Events Coming This October

Hi Reader,

Here’s a date you’ll want to circle on your calendar — from 5 to 12 October 2025, Victorian Seniors Card holders can enjoy 8 days of free public transport across the state. That’s unlimited travel on all metropolitan services, V/Line train and coach routes, and selected regional bus services outside the myki-enabled area. Touch on and off as usual with your Seniors myki card, but you won’t be charged for your trip!

The free travel coincides with the Victorian Seniors Festival, an annual celebration packed with over 3,000 events across the state. From live music and art exhibitions to walking tours and community markets, there’s something for every taste and pace.

Last year, our standout was the silent disco walking tour — a joyful mix of music, movement, and curious looks from passers-by. We’re excited to see what’s on offer this year!

We’re not affiliated with the festival (unfortunately!) — we just love sharing fun, affordable things to do. As the official event directory will be released by Seniors Online on 2 September, we’d love to know: Do you plan on attending this year? Which types of events should we feature in our recommendations?

Warmly,
Amy

P.S. We’re working on a special reader-recommended guide to the festival — so if you’ve attended in previous years and have a favourite tip or festival activity, reply and tell us!

Let's Explore Melbourne

Where to Enjoy a Peaceful Meal

We've found restaurants where you can actually hear yourself think—and enjoy a lovely lunch or dinner too.

Our Father's Day Guide is Here

Whether you're planning a family lunch or just want to show Dad you care, we’ve rounded up thoughtful ideas and relaxing ways to spend the day in Melbourne.

A Winter Afternoon of Bliss

Spend a cosy afternoon soaking in warm pools, sipping herbal tea, and letting the winter chill melt away.

I was a bit worried it’d be too busy, but there were so many pools to explore that we always found a quiet spot to linger. You can hire towels and robes, then spend time wandering from one pool to the next, perhaps stopping for a coffee. There are cafes on-site for food and drinks.
The therapeutic mineral waters make your body feel wonderful—and that feeling stayed with me for days afterwards. Already planning a return visit with a few friends—next time we’ll book a private bath too!

District Docklands

Hello Reader, It’s Chris here. It had been more than 50 years since I last stepped inside the Oxford Scholar. Back in my RMIT student days, it was the pub across the road where mates and I would swap stories over a cheap pot. On a recent trip into the city, curiosity got the better of me and I wandered in for old times’ sake. The place had changed, of course, but sitting there with a cider in hand brought the memories flooding back. That afternoon led me to visit a few more old haunts, and it...

Hi there Reader, One of our lovely contributors, Kathy, recently reminded me of something important. She’d just been along to a Device Security: Privacy and Etiquette session at Darebin Library and told me she never misses a chance to learn more about using her laptop, emails and mobile. Her motto made me smile: “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Kathy told me she picked up some surprising advice (who knew emojis could be so risky?) and, just as importantly, had a good laugh along the way....
