Cosy Lunches, Live Tunes & Theatre Secrets in Melbourne

Hi there Reader,

Last week I had the privilege of speaking on a panel for the Be Bold Be Brave forum in Geelong, a program empowering female high school students to chase their ambitions. One of my fellow panellists was Clare Reilly—an inspiring disability and MS advocate whose determination left a lasting impression on me.

Clare is about to take on a challenge like no other: becoming the first person to traverse the world’s longest off-road cycling trail—the 1,072km Munda Biddi Trail in Western Australia—using a wheelchair. Her mission is as bold as it is brave: to raise awareness and vital funds for multiple sclerosis research, with a goal of raising $100,000.

If you’re interested, find out more about Clare’s mission online: www.wheelchairmeetswilderness.org

Or, if you’re local, grab a ticket to the Trivia Night Fundraiser at Portarlington Cricket Club on Saturday 18 October. Expect trivia, raffle prizes, an auction, and a well-stocked bar—all for a great cause. Tickets are $35pp (tables of 6 available).

And now, on to this week’s Melbourne stories, events, and giveaways—there’s plenty to inspire closer to home too.

All the best,

Amy

Peek Beneath the Spire

Step behind the scenes at one of Melbourne’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

I loved the story of the small room, beautifully fitted out with a gold ceiling, teal carpet, and velvet walls, with a very stylish “bathroom” next door, all designed in blue to match Princess Diana’s engagement ring. Soft leather lounge chairs. A room to host special guests, like Diana and Charles, before a show. So thrilling to think I sat on the same lounge chair as royalty!

District Docklands

Hello Reader, It’s Chris here. It had been more than 50 years since I last stepped inside the Oxford Scholar. Back in my RMIT student days, it was the pub across the road where mates and I would swap stories over a cheap pot. On a recent trip into the city, curiosity got the better of me and I wandered in for old times’ sake. The place had changed, of course, but sitting there with a cider in hand brought the memories flooding back. That afternoon led me to visit a few more old haunts, and it...

Hi there Reader, One of our lovely contributors, Kathy, recently reminded me of something important. She’d just been along to a Device Security: Privacy and Etiquette session at Darebin Library and told me she never misses a chance to learn more about using her laptop, emails and mobile. Her motto made me smile: “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Kathy told me she picked up some surprising advice (who knew emojis could be so risky?) and, just as importantly, had a good laugh along the way....
